Archon App Video Recording on Linux (Unofficial)

Recording on Linux is not officially supported by Archon, but...

A kind user has shared how they were able to set up Archon App Recording on Linux. We're sharing that workaround here!

The user, alongside sharing this info, says:

"Feel free to ping me on Discord (kinkshaming) if you’re having trouble. I’m EU-based, so keep in mind, that my sleep schedule and day to day might be a little different due to timezones."

Running Windows-Version of the Archon App with Screen Recording on Wine (CachyOS)

Prerequisites (see notes):

  • CachyOS
  • Faugus Launcher (grab it from the Store)
    • You can of course use other launchers as well (your mileage may vary), I went with Faugus because I hate starting Steam to start Battle.net to start World of Warcraft.
    • I will (for the lack of experience) only cover the setup with Faugus. If you manage to get it working with any other Launcher, feel free to share your experiences.
    • Quick installation rundown: Open Faugus, install Battle.net from the „+“-menu, follow the installation instructions (have some patience, it’ll take roughly 5-10 minutes) and close the Battle.net login window on first start (as Faugus should tell you). After the window closed and the Faugus window shows the main menu again, you’re good to start Battle.net and log in.
  • Archon App Windows Installer from https://www.archon.gg/download
  • Make sure to download the Windows Installer (as marked in the screenshot)
  • A WCL-Account

Step 1 – Extracting the Installer:

After downloading the Windows-Installer from the link above, you'll want to extract it.

  • On CachyOS this will work out of the box. Right-click the Installer in your "Download" folder.
  • Hover over "Extract" (see screenshot for visual reference) and choose "Extract here".

A new folder should pop up called "archon-v9.X.XX" (naming depends on the version you downloaded).

You can now copy this folder to anywhere you want to start the program from. For consistency, I moved mine inside the wine prefix: /home/YOUR_USER/Faugus/battlenet/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/archon-v9.3.62

Step 2 – Starting the Archon App and First Setup:

After extracting the Installer, open up Faugus Launcher, right-click on Battle.net and select "Edit":

  • A new window opens, click on the tab "Tools" and after that on "Additional Application". This lets us start another application automatically whenever Battle.net starts.

This is (kind of) necessary, because we need to start both Battle.net and the Archon App in the same Wine instance to make Archon recognise the World of Warcraft Client. You could (in theory) start Archon manually. I won’t cover this here.

  • Tick the checkbox next to "Enable" and click the magnifying glass to select the Archon App:

I did not test, if a delay was necessary. I just set one between 2-5 seconds and it worked. Try it a bit and see what works for you. I don’t think it’s mandatory to have one.

Step 3 – Testing if it Works and Archon Setup:

  • After you added Archon as an additional application to run when you start Battle.net, you can finally start Battle.net in the Main Menu of Faugus Launcher and see if Archon starts.

  • I’m using the latest release of UMU-Proton. You can try to get other compatibility layers to work (CachyOS didn’t work for me for example) but the performance difference between those that I tried is negligable.

But remember: the version you choose runs both World of Warcraft and the Archon App, so you need to select one, which works with both.

Follow the setup instructions inside the Archon App and go for a test run (I did LFR, but you do you!)
