Older Logging Apps Will Retire June 29th
You may have noticed that the Companion and Uploader apps now include a cutoff date of June 29th in the Archon App upgrade screen. We've made many fixes and improvements to the Archon App since its release in March and have seen that the vast majority of our users have upgraded to it already.
However, ensuring all users have upgraded by the end of the month allows us to fully stop supporting the old versions (bringing us from 8 log uploading apps down to 2!), reduce our maintenance burden, tidy up old code, and generally provide better and faster support to all users.
What's Changing?
As of writing, the state of the different app flavors can be described in the table below:
How to Upgrade
You can download the Archon App directly from the download page.
Or, you can follow the upgrade process from inside your current app:
The new app has support for all games, but you can remove the ones you aren't interested in:
After upgrading, the Settings tab will have a Clean up section, which will help you uninstall the old apps automatically.
Upgrade Example 1: Companion → Archon App
You can uninstall Overwolf (assuming you don't use it for any other apps). The new app is built with Electron and uses a library called ow-electron for features such as overlays and hotkeys.
You still have access to old features, with the following new features:
If enabled, you can automatically record and review video footage of your gameplay sessions, fully synced to the log.
Report viewing is now labelled "Post-Pull Analysis" and also includes high-level insights such as boss-specific filters, raid cooldowns, and mechanical breakdowns.
The character view has been redesigned with new features (such as showing the week bosses were first killed, or % progress for unkilled bosses) and improved UX (such as expanding boss rows inline instead of navigating away).
Ads and their related tracking are still present for non-subscribers (provided via the ow-electron library). Subscribers have no ads or ad tracking in the old app and continue to have no ads or ad tracking in the new app.
Upgrade Example 2: Uploader → Archon App
Upgrading from the Warcraft or FF Logs Uploader to the Archon App means:
You still do not need to install the separate Overwolf platform. Both the old app and the new app use the ow-electron library (which the old app primarily uses for Ads, but the new app also uses for optional features such as overlays).
You still have access to old features, but can now also use video recording, post-pull analysis, and character lookups. Video recording is OBS-based, and does not use any system resources if not enabled.
For FFXIV users particularly, you may find it useful that there are now two overlay options: "Always on Top" and "In-Game". Depending on how you launch FFXIV and what plugins you use, you may find one overlay option more compatible than the other. Previously, many users would swap between the Companion and Uploader apps based on what style of overlay they wanted to use, but now the Archon App provides both styles.
Ads and their related tracking are still present for non-subscribers (provided via the ow-electron library). Subscribers have no ads or ad tracking in the old app and continue to have no ads or ad tracking in the new app.
Upgrade Example 3: Multiple Old Apps → Archon App
If you previously played multiple games, such as World of Warcraft and FFXIV, you now only need one app installed instead of multiple. The Archon App lets you swap between different games and upload logs for all of them. It will automatically swap as you launch different games (this behavior can be disabled in settings).
The Settings tab has an Old App Cleanup section that helps you uninstall the old apps that you no longer need:
Archon App Lite
The Archon App Lite is an alternative option for users that solely want to upload logs and do not want any other features. It will still receive bug fixes and security patches, but will not be updated with new features. It does not use the ow-electron library and currently does not include any ads (you may notice that there is no "Manage Privacy" option in Settings - this is why). You can download it at the bottom of the page here.
